The publication of The Particular Law of the Greek-Melkite Catholic Church intends to offer not only increased accessibility to and greater knowledge of the text by translating from the Arabic language, but also to be an instrument for its effective use. The Greek-Melkite Catholic Church would become the first of all the Eastern Churches sui iuris to elaborate its particular law. The Synod of Bishops of the Greek-Melkite Church immediately directed its legislative power to beginning this codification. Patriarch Maximos V Hakim during the Synod of 1991 nominated a canonical commission made up of five people: three Bishops, Naofitos Edilbi, Metropolitan of Aleppo; Elias Nejmeh, Archbishop of Tripoli; Youhanna Mansour, Patriarchal Vicar, and two presbyters, Dimitrios Salachas, of the Apostolic Exarchate of Greece and Elie Haddad, a Basilian Salvatorian monk. With this work we mainly want to offer a tool to those interested in the canonical sector, but also to those who want to know more closely one of the aspects of the Greek-Melkite Catholic Church, namely the juridical personality that is illustrated in its Particular Law.
Raji Al Bdeiwi, born in Syria in 1982, is a priest of the Eparchy of Piana degli Albanesi of the Italo-Albanian Catholic Church.
